As I was writing my last blog post, 8 Steps on How to Prepare for a Layoff, I thought to myself, “what would my next step be if they were to hand me the pink slip tomorrow?”
The first thing on the list is easy. I would sleep for a week and then take at least 6 months off to travel. While traveling, I would find a way to earn a living online and to work on my blog.
Whether you’re looking for new ways to earn some extra money to pay off your debts or to save up for that dream vacation, then you’ve come to the right place.
I have compiled a list of side hustles you can do in your spare time. I have done some of them in the past and still do some today. I will add more to the list as I find more.
With the age of the internet, there are so many ways to earn a living online. There are YouTubers who earn a sizable income playing video games, makeup tutorials, traveling, opening toys or just EATING.
I cannot believe there are people watching videos of some girl eating (ok fine…yes…I am one of them). I don’t know why I am so fascinated by it. It goes to show that it doesn’t matter how ridiculous it sounds, there is an audience for everything. You just have to be creative and think outside the box.
12 SIDE HUSTLES TO MAKE EXTRA MONEY
1. Uber Driver
Although this is not an online hustle, it’s a side hustle regardless to earn money fast. You make your own hours and work whenever you want. All you need is a valid driver’s license, insurance and a car.
In fact, you don’t even need a car to be an Uber driver. According to their website, you can rent a car for as low as $130/week which will include maintenance and roadside assistance to help keep you safe and on the road. Drive as much as you want without any additional fees, even for miles you drive while off the app.
Uber now has an option for in-app tip function. That’s a big plus for Uber drivers.
One time I was riding with a chatty Uber driver, he told me he works about 4-5 hours a night making $200/night. That is pretty good extra money.

2. Lyft Driver

This is not really a side hustle, but you still get to earn extra cash. Ebates allows you to earn cash back from shopping at places that you normally would already such as Macy’s, Walmart, Amazon, eBay, etc. My friend introduced me to it after she earned $200 cash back from it. Sign up now to earn $10 after spending $25 worth of purchases.

Fiverr is a freelance services marketplace that offers graphic & design, digital marketing, writing & translation, video & animation, etc. I have used it in the past as a consumer. You can earn extra money by offering your services.

Don’t think you have anything worth selling? You’d be surprised. I had a palm pilot sitting around for years. One day, I just decided to search for it on eBay and saw someone was listing it. I listed mine and sold it for almost $60! I didn’t think anyone would want to buy it, but someone did. I have sold anything from clothes to purses to books to electronics on eBay over the years.
I used to sell my clothes on eBay, but I have found that people are willing to pay more over at Poshmark for your gently used items.

8. Facebook Marketplace
You can find just about anything here to buy and sell. The best part about this is you sell to other locals – which means no shipping. My brother bought his couch used for $400, used it for 3-4 years, sold it again for $400.
Amazon’s FBA program (Fulfillment by Amazon) is one of the most popular side hustles. You ship your products to Amazon to store, pick, pack and ship for you. Once you can find a place to buy cheap products and have a system going, it can be a very lucrative gig. A friend of mine has been doing this for 7 years earning a full-time income.

10. Virtual Assistant
A virtual assistant is someone that provides services to individuals, companies or organizations, but instead of going into the office, they just work from home. A virtual assistant does anything from email management, writing, bookkeeping, social media marketing, transcription, etc. If I was out of a job tomorrow, this is something I would do while traveling the world.

Bonus Side Hustle: Start a Blog
Since this might not earn you money fast, I will list it as a bonus side hustle. I think this is the best side hustle. It requires hard work and dedication and might take years to earn a full-time income. What so great about starting a blog is that it is something you can build on the side and it is YOURS.
Once you start earning a full-time income, you can choose to live and work anywhere. Doesn’t it sound wonderful?
